Students were cleared from both the Ridgeland and Hardeeville campuses on Monday morning after the Jasper County School District office in Ridgeland received a bomb threat over the weekend.
The main district office received the threat call at about 7:15 p.m. Friday. Officers with the Jasper County Sheriff's Office responded at about 8 a.m. Monday that's when the message was retrieved from the district's answering service, according to the school district.
Authorities ordered that both campuses be evacuated and searched as a precaution. The bomb squad was called to the scene to investigate the area. The Jasper County Sheriff's Office, Ridgeland police and the Hardeeville police responded.
Students were taken by busses from the Ridgeland campus to the Ridgeland-Hardeeville High School football field. Students at the Hardeeville campus walked to the football field.
Authorities are with the students at both campuses. Parents were notified of the situation through the Alert Now System.
The incident remains under investigation.
