LIBERTY CO., GA (WTOC) -
Southeast Georgia Friends of Fort Stewart and Hunter and the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting an event on Tuesday afternoon.
Liberty County elected officials plan to sign a proclamation on Tuesday afternoon opposing the possible nationwide sequestration of military bases.
It takes place at 3 p.m. at the Courthouse Annex at 100 N. Main St. in Hinesville in the Commissioner's Board Room.
U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss had said during a visit to MidCoast Regional Airport in August that sequestration would result in Fort Stewart and Hinesville losing 7,000 jobs, according to a news release.
The sequestration is part of $1.2 trillion in defense and entitlement cuts that will take effect on Jan. 2, 2013, if Congress doesn't come up with a package to reduce the federal deficit.
