Hinesville celebrates 175th birthday

The city of Hinesville debuted something new to celebrate its 175 years of history. City leaders presented an abstract painting that will hang on a building wall on Commerce St., the city's first piece of public art to decorate downtown.

The mural depicts a mossy oak tree with a coast and shrimp boat in the background. City officials each lent a hand in painting particular pieces of the work.

"I'm proud to be the mayor of a city that is as diverse and progressive as this one," said Mayor Jim Thomas. "I think it is that type of people that have added to that long glorious history."
