Sheriff continues cracking down on spice

EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

Two men were arrested on spice related charges following a drug operation conducted by the Effingham County Sheriff's Drug Suppression Team.

Investigators say they received information that a large amount of spice was to be delivered to a residence on Springfield Tusculum Road on Aug. 30. Investigators were able to build their case and obtain a search warrant for the residence.

During a search of the residence, investigators say they located 75 packets of spice which was ordered online. Deputies say the homeowner, Jason Hinely, of Springfield, ordered the spice online and was selling to individuals in our region.

Hinely was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and unlawful use of a communication device.

Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie says they have Spice out of most gas stations, but they'll continue cracking down until all of it is out of the county.

"I think this is one of the worst drugs. If we find other people selling Spice, they'll find themselves right where this man did...having a place to stay the night for a couple of days," Sheriff McDuffie said.

WTOC spoke with Hinely on Wednesday. He said he never had the Spice in his home and that he is innocent.
