Shooting in Daffin Park dampens Savannah's Safety-Palooza
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
Two hours after the city of Savannah hosted their annual Safety Palooza event, shots rang out at Daffin Park when a fight broke out between two groups comprised of teens and young adults.
The shooting happened around 3 p.m. during a youth football game with other children playing in the park.
Investigators say three shots were fired, but no one was hurt.
Savannah Chatham officers rushed to the scene and evacuated everyone from the park.
"When we saw all the extra activity, everybody running, doing all those other things, all we thought about was getting all our kids together, parents, cheeleaders, got them under a tent and kept them away from it," said Carrie Harris.
"We didn't want them to see it, we didn't want them to be a part of it."
Three adults and four juveniles were taken into custody, including the teen who fired the shots.
Police say 17-year old Quanelius Lee fled into Ardsley Park. Following a brief foot chase, the teen was found hiding under a parked car on East 45th Street.
Lee is being charged with carrying a deadly weapon in a public place, possession of a firearm by a subject under 21, reckless conduct and obstruction of an officer.
