Ceremony set for 85th Civil Affairs Brigade soldiers

HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC) - A ceremony will be held Thursday morning for more Fort Stewart soldiers who have been activated.

The 85th Civil Affairs Brigade adds to the U.S. Africa Command effort with the activation of the 82nd Civil Affairs Battalion at Fort Stewart.

The ceremony takes place at 9 a.m. Thursday at Cottrell Field.

The 82nd Civil Affairs Battalion is "regionally oriented with" of the U.S. Africa Command Theater of Operations, according to the Fort Stewart Public Affairs Office.

The battalion has trained teams to provide foreign humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, nation assistance, support host nation governance and their populations, and support civil administrations.

Lt Col. Simon Gardner commands the battalion and the unit is under the 85th Civil affairs Brigade under the command of Col. Leo J Ruth II, of Fort Hood, Texas.
