HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -
Michael George Wyman, 55, of Hardeeville, has been arrested by members of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office ICE Task Force on multiple charges after an investigation into fraudulent activities that occurred at his Hilton Head Island business over the past six months.
Wyman was arrested Tuesday afternoon during an arranged meeting with investigators. He was wanted on 10 outstanding counts of breach of trust with fraudulent intent in relation to money taken from multiple victims for whom he had agreed to provide his immigration services.
Since Wyman opened Immigrant Angels in March 2012, he has reportedly taken thousands of dollars from victims who paid him to complete and file immigration paperwork. Victims began contacting the sheriff's office after discovering that Wyman's business office had abruptly and unexplainably closed in September and their paperwork had never been filed.
During the investigation, which included a search warrant executed at Wyman's office, 10 Office Way, Suite 108, on Sept. 17, authorities confirmed that Wyman was fraudulently collecting money for services that were never complete.
10 victims have been identified at this time. Hundreds of files were seized and the investigation continues as ICE task force members work to identify additional victims.
Anyone with information is asked to contact either Investigator Cpl. L. Resto at 843.255.3510 or Investigator LCpl. J. Shelton at 843.255.3511.
