SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - If you weren't able to get away for a summer vacation this year, you still can do so this fall without breaking the bank.
Industry experts call this time of year the "shoulder season." The summer rush is over and the kids are back in school, but the holidays are still a couple of months away. Whether you're looking to get away with the girls for a weekend or take a nice mini-vacation with the whole family, the time is now to save. The peak of the summer season is long gone, so demand for hotel rooms is down, meaning you can usually find great deals from now all the way through December.
These deals include trips to everywhere from New York City to exotic locations like the Caribbean. The only exception to this time frame would be major holidays. If you're worried about planning around the kids' schedule, Sav-On Travel President Liz Harn says it can be done. She suggests heading to the Carolinas for a nice, quick change of scenery.
"If you can go to your children's calendar, and if they have off a Friday and a Monday, you're going to find your very best values."
"Going up north to do fall foliage is a wonderful experience," Harn said.
