HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC)
Hilton Head is hosting its Wheelchair Championships and players from all over the world are on the island getting ready for the big tournament.
Almost 70 athletes will compete this week to earn ranking points to represent their respective countries in the paralympics. The athletes range in age from 13 to 70.
San Diego's Steve Baldwin, ranked internationally in the 50's age group, has been playing the game for 15 years and says he got hooked on tennis almost immediately.
"Tennis is a hard game, and all the challenges that an able-bodied player has, we have too. Can my forehand improve? Can I work on my serve? All that kind of stuff," said Baldwin.
The tournament, which is hosted by Hilton Head's Professional Tennis Registry, runs through Sunday and is endorsed by the International Tennis Federation and the United States Tennis Association.
