Jury selection began around 8 a.m. Monday in McIntosh County for Brian Gale, a man accused of leaving his stepson in the swamp to die in 2011.

Gale says that more than two years ago, he and his 14-year-old stepson Daniel got lost when they were out hunting. He says he left the boy alone while he tried to find help, and authorities later found Daniel dead.

Daniel's mother, Susan Gale, will be one of the first witnesses to testify.

Brian Gale faces charges of murder, involuntary manslaughter and cruelty to children.

The trial will start around 1:30 p.m. Monday. WTOC will have a news crew in court Monday to bring you the latest on the trial.
