SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Detectives are investigating the death of a young woman discovered Sept. 30.

Savannah Fire was dispatched to an area off Oglethrope Ave. in the Yamacraw Village Housing Complex just after 6:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a vehicle on fire.

A woman's body was discovered in the vehicle while firefighters were extinguishing the flames.

According to Savannah Fire spokesman Mark Keller, authorities arrived on scene to find a 2012 black Dodge Avenger with heavy fire in the trunk. Keller says a burning rag was stuffed in the gas tank door. The woman's body was found in the trunk.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department detectives were then called in to investigate.

Police have identified the woman in the burned out vehicle as Amber Deloach, 18, of Savannah.

An autopsy was performed Monday morning. Detectives are investigating the case as a homicide, and are continuing to follow leads.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 912.234.2020 or text CRIMES (274637).
