SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Crime and violence have been on the minds of many in Savannah. The latest murder involving a teenage girl has sparked a new petition on www.change.org calling on Savannah's Mayor, Council and Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Chief Willie Lovett for answers.

Mayor Edna Jackson addressed the crime issue Tuesday afternoon at the Rotary Savannah South meeting, citing overall crime in Savannah is down but has spiked in certain communities.

"Some areas of this city and the Southside, crime has been escalating. We have to put more people in this area," Mayor Jackson told the group.

Then, WTOC showed her the petition, which she had not see yet.

"I do not know who put it out there, but if they would like to come to my office I would like to meet with them about their concerns," she said.

The petition was started Tuesday morning by an anonymous person, calling themselves Concerned Resident, and had 104 signatures by 7 p.m.
