NC bank robbery suspect arrested in Hinesville


A North Carolina man wanted in connection with a bank robbery in Charlotte was arrested Tuesday by U.S. Marshals in Hinesville.

Thomas A. Hammond, 46, was wanted by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police in connection with two bank robberies that occurred in August and September.

United States Marshals Service, Savannah Office of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force,

The United States Marshals Office Fugitive Task Force in Charlotte generated leads that he was working on Fort Stewart and staying at a Hinesville hotel. 

The Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force helped with locating and arresting Hammond. He was found at the EconoLodge motel on Highway 84 in Hinesville.

Savannah task force members, the Liberty County Sheriff's Office and Hinesville police determined which room he was in and he was arrested without incident, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Hammond was taken to the Liberty County jail where he awaits extradition to North Carolina.
