Savannah firefighters are investigating a late night blaze on the city's west side. Around 9:30pm last night, firefighters were called to a house on Augusta Avenue near the intersection with Cumming Street. They arrived to find a home engulfed in flames. Fortunately, no one was in the house at the time.
As firefighters worked to put out the blaze, it spread to a home next door. Savannah Electric crews were also called out to cut power to a number of houses.
In the end, the fire in the first house left it destroyed. The second home sustained minor damage. It took firefighters more than two hours to get out the hot spots and secure the scene.
