POOLER, GA (WTOC) -

Pooler City Manager Robbie Byrd told WTOC that a luxury outlet retail center is planned for Pooler.

Atlanta-based developer Ben Carter of Ben Carter Enterprises is behind the project also built St. John's Town Center in Jacksonville, Fla.

The new center will have more than 560,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space that will be anchored by four stores and include a food court, according to the Ben Carter of Ben Carter Enterprises website.

"It's huge. It is not only going to be much more convenient for our people to shop at but also it is bringing jobs. We are talking about quite a bit of jobs," said Mayor Mike Lamb, City of Pooler.

"Sounds like a good place to go shop. We go to the one in Jacksonville so this will save some time," said Ronald Bennett, shopper.

"I really think this is exciting, especially if the retailers that are coming to Pooler are not retailers that are located in the Savannah Mall or Oglethorpe Mall. It will give the area shoppers some other options," said Catherine Hobbs, shopper.

The project is "projected to open" in spring 2014, according to the website.
