ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Atlanta police are working to determine whether or not a man fell accidentally from a northeast Atlanta condominium building early Wednesday.

Capt. Adam Lee III said a woman called 911 and reported that her roommate had fallen from an 18th story balcony at the City Heights Condominiums at approximately 1:45 a.m.

The woman said that she had seen the 23-year-old man on the balcony smoking a cigarette before he disappeared.

Police said that the man had been drinking throughout the day. He had spoken with the concierge about 20 minutes before he fell, and the concierge said he could smell alcohol on the man's breath.

According to the woman who reported the fall, the man had not shown any suicidal signs prior to his death and had never attempted suicide before, police said.

As of Wednesday afternoon, police had not ruled the death accidental, nor had they ruled it a suicide. Officers found no signs of foul play at the scene.
