HARDEEVILLE, SC (WTOC) -

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division said a Hardeeville man has been arrested in connection with a double homicide in Hardeeville.

Bernard Christopher Jenkins, 19, of Hardeeville, was charged Wednesday with the slayings. Dezmond Brown, 25, and his girlfriend, Octavia Scott, 26, were both fatally shot May 11.

Police got a call to respond to what they thought was a car accident on Purrysburg Road in Hardeeville. A passerby called police to report a car crashed into a tree and that the two people inside the car were dead.

Jenkins was charged with two counts of murder after a joint investigation by Hardeeville police and SLED.

Jenkins is the son of a Jasper Co. sheriff's deputy.
