SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The 2nd Battalion 3rd Aviation Regiment 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade at Hunter Army Airfield are welcoming a new Chinook helicopter.

Representatives from Boeing were there giving the new helicopters the certification. Soldiers say the new technology will help on their upcoming deployment.

"It's always humans flying these machines but with the added technology as you get newer technology to increase your capabilities the safety and it allows us to really push the boundaries and the envelope of what we're able to accomplish out there in Afghanistan," said Capt. Gabriel Lucero.

The new aircraft will be used to transport soldiers, give combat support, disaster relief and serve as a Medivac helicopter.
