GUYTON, GA (WTOC) - Habitat for Humanity of Effingham County is building a home for a Desert Storm veteran and her family this fall.
Volunteers have raised $30,000 to build a home for Cristal Boyles who was honorably discharged from the 1st Infantry Division after serving 10 months in Iraq.
This is the first time Habitat for Humanity in Effingham County has built a new home for a veteran.
Boyles always wanted a home of her own and was growing tired of renting.
"It's a dream come true. It's very helpful to have someone to help you and that means a lot," Boyles said.
The organization needs to raise an additional $35,000 to begin construction this fall. The total of $65,000 will include $6,000 to purchase land, $6,000 tap-in and impact fee and $700 for a noise assessment (HUD requirement).
To help raise money the organization is hosting a Military Ball Monday, Nov. 12th at the New Ebenezer Retreat Center. Habitat staff and volunteers are selling tickets for $25.
