Simone Lamar, 26, of Springfield, is in custody facing several charges including dog fighting after Effingham County sheriff's deputies located several dogs, one deceased dog, and several items used to train dogs for fighting at a residence on Oakton Dr. off of Standard Ln. in Springfield Tuesday.
A work crew found a cooler with a decomposed dog inside of it behind a residence and contacted deputies shortly after 12 p.m. Deputies found four other pit bulls chained behind the mobile home when they arrived. According to police, one of the dogs was malnourished and had visible injuries which were consistent with dog fighting.
After obtaining a search warrant, investigators found items used for dog fighting including a treadmill for dogs, restraint devices, padlocks, chains, cable cords used to wrap around their neck, vitamins and other known solutions with syringes used to inject the dogs.
Lamar has been charged with dog fighting, cruelty to animals and methods of disposal of dead animals.
The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests and charges are expected. Lamar is being held in the Effingham County Jail.
