Underprivileged kids get a special day at the Coastal Empire Fair

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Folks at the Coastal Empire Fair did their part to make some unforgettable memories Saturday.

The Sunshine Special event was held at the fair today. 515 underprivileged children were given the chance to enjoy everything the fair has to offer for free.

For two hours they got to ride the rides, see the animals, eat some cotton candy and were treated to other surprises along the way. After the rides everyone got a free lunch.

"They're just out here doing something that they normally get to do," said fair president Chris Hafer.

"It's our way of giving back to the community, you know it's one of the ways we give back to the community, we support the Jenkins boys club, we also have the center for the prevention of child abuse. so just realize when you come out to support the coastal empire fair, all you money's staying right here."

The fair will be in town through next Sunday.
