Crews were out early Tuesday working to contain a brush fire on Wilmington Island.
It started off of Walthour Rd. about 300 yards into the woods. Officials say it all started there a couple of days ago when some juveniles started a small brush fire that was put out, but apparently because of the recent strong winds, the fire started back up early Tuesday, destroying several acres.
Crews say they are being very cautious with this fire because there are homes about 200 yards away that surround the area. A WTOC news crew reported seeing a bulldozer circling around the area to make sure the fire does not spread to any of the homes nearby.
Officials say they do have control of the fire at this time. No injuries have been reported and no homes or businesses have been affected.
