Report: Suspects use $1,200 in fake money at Walmart

Posted: Updated:
COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

Walterboro Public Safety officers are searching for 4 suspects who they say purchased over $1,000 in goods at Walmart using counterfeit bills.

According to a police report, three males and one female entered Walmart on Bells Hwy. around 1:35 a.m. Tuesday, October 30.

The group purchased a computer, surround sound, and a two-your warranty totaling $1,157 using 12 counterfeit $100 bills.

Officers say the store did not know the bills were counterfeit at the time of the purchase, and alerted police around 7 p.m. the same day after discovering the money was fake.

The report states Walmart would not return the fake money, and chose to handle the matter through their bank.
