Savannah kicks off Rock 'n' Roll Marathon weekend

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Race organizers and several city leaders kicked off the start of the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon weekend at Johnson Square on Thursday.

Organizers went over transportation and parking plans, shuttle changes, road closures and various race details for more than 17,000 runners.

"We want you to know that once you come to our city you will always come back. I'm looking forward to being right here on Bay St. waving to all of the runners as they go by," said Mayor Edna Jackson.

Runners from all over the country are participating in the race. The marathon starts at 8 a.m. Saturday at Bay and Bull streets. The finish line is in Forsyth Park.
