Dog Recovering After Being Left in Sweltering Car

Veterinarians tell us a puppy who almost died after being left in a car should make a full recovery. A 17-month-old bassett hound named Baby Dill Pickle was recued from a sweltering car about 4pm Saturday afternoon by Cpl. Randall Powell.

Police say the dog's owner left the puppy in a car in a parking lot on Abercorn. The temperatures outside were in the 90s, and over 150 degrees in the car. Police had to force open the door to get to the dog.

He was treated at Petsmart's emergency care center and vets say he was five minutes from dying from the heat. His owner has been charged with animal cruelty and could face up to 12 months in prison and pay a $5,000 fine if convicted.
