The winner has crossed the finish line of the second annual Rock 'n' Roll Savannah Marathon at Forsyth Park.
Jeff Mescal, 47, of Hebron, Ind., won the marathon with the time of 02:43:04 his average pace was 06:14. He told WTOC that he dedicated this race to his mother.
Leading the women, Jill Horst, of Rome, Ga., defends her title as the marathon winner with a time of 02:52:05. Her winning time last year was 02:45:12. "A win's a win that was my goal," she told WTOC. She said she is planning to run another marathon next weekend with her husband in Pensacola, Fla.
Half marathon runners continue to cross the finish line.
Stephen Pifer completed the race at 01:05:32, No. 2 is Curtis Begley Jr. at 01:06:00. Leading the women, Venera Sarmosova completed the half marathon at 01:17:44. No. 2 half marathon finisher is Kimberly Ruck at 01:19:03 and Liubon Denisova finished in third place.
WTOC's Pat Prokop crossed the half marathon finish line at 10:18:51 with a time of 2:09:08. WTOC's Dawn Baker, Marsha Fogarty and Dal Cannady have also completed the half marathon.
All 17,000 runners have stepped off from 25 corrals in the wave start and crossed the starting line at Bay and Bull streets to begin the second annual Rock 'n' Roll Savannah Marathon and Half Marathon.
Visit Savannah President Joe Marinelli said that cleanup is already finished at the starting line on Bay Street.
There has been a marriage proposal at the race. Michael Vance proposed to Lauren Taylor, who are both from Charlotte, N.C., and she said yes.
