Fire kills 30K chickens at Westminster farm

WESTMINSTER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Firefighters said 30,000 chickens were killed in a fire at a Westminster farm Saturday.

The chicken house that caught fire was part of Foster Farms, which has 15 other houses, firefighters said. The house that was destroyed was along Armstrong Road at Beaver Pond Road.

They said the chickens are butchered and sold locally. Officials said the farm plans to have a new chicken house up and running by early 2013.

Firefighters don't know what sparked the blaze.
