Troopers chase stolen car, end up in school parking lot

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

The State Highway Patrol found themselves in a high-speed chase after trying to pull over a stolen car late Wednesday night.

It was a simple traffic stop, at least, that's what it was supposed to be.

Troopers said they pulled in behind a later model silver Dodge Charger to write the driver up for the violation.

But when the blue lights came on, the diver hit the gas.

That's when officials ran the tags, and figured out this wouldn't be your average traffic stop.

The car was stolen.

The driver lead SHP units down I-77, and off on Trade Street around 10pm.

Officials said the Charger turned down Bruns Avenue, and hit a dead-end in the parking lot of Bruns Academy.

Three people jumped out of the car and ran off.  Charlotte-Mecklenburg police were called in to help search for the suspects.

Canine units and the police helicopter were also rolled to the scene.

Troopers report one man was arrested, two others are still on the loose.  The Dodge they were driving had some damage to it, but otherwise was in good condition.

It's unclear what charges are going to be filed.

A Savannah woman is giving back to the homeless community and making them look good in the process. Besty Rothman hosted her third annual event helping at the old Savannah city mission on Bull Street today. She and a team of volunteers gave free haircuts, manicures, warm meals, and much more to people who stopped by.  Rothman, a licensed cosmetologist, said she organized the event to honor her late sister and to give back to the community.
