Blake WilloughbyBlake Willoughby of St. Vincent's plays three sports, is one of the top students at the school and still finds time to do volunteer work. She is the school winners in the Wendy's High School Heisman competition.
She plays basketball, volleyball and soccer for the Saints. The volleyball team just completed a great season, winning the area championship and reaching the AA-Elite 8 in the state tournament. She hopes to pursue that at Georgia College and State University in Milledgevile. "I plan to try to play volleyball at Georgia College, if I can, because I really want to go there," said Willoughby. "So, we're just trying to pursue that, right now."
Her favorite subject in high school is English and tells us why, "I love to read in my spare time when I can. I just love to ready and write."
Pat Williams, American Lit and AP English Language teacher, adds, "She's a student, I can honestly say, who doesn't give up. She perseveres and puts in the effort and also really rises to the challenge."
In College, Willoughby plans to follow in her mother's footsteps and study nursing, "I think I want to do something along he lines of physical therapy ore physical trainer. That's where my mom works at the wellness center at St. Joseph's-Candler. I just love sports myself so as a physical trainer, or a physical therapist, I love helping people get better in sports that they love or whatever they enjoy."
In her spare time, Willoughby volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House to help families with children who have children with long-term illnesses. "At Ronald McDonald House we provide housing for them so they can stay with their children and help them get better, faster," said Willoughby. "It's been a great experience because I get to go in and I get to spend time with some of the families and I help them clean up and help them stay there. So, it's been a great experience."
By the way, she starts basketball season next weekend.
