Coastal Empire Fair shooting victim speaks out

Jamiente Johnson Jamiente Johnson

19-year-old Jamiente Johnson's arm is in a cast and she has stitches on her stomach after she was shot last weekend at the Coastal Empire Fair.

Johnson was out with her 17-year-old sister and friends when she says she heard gunshots.

"All of a sudden I hear shots fired everywhere. I just tried to run because my first instinct was to run," said Johnson.

Johnson says she dropped to the ground and felt her arm stinging. She later realized she had been shot.

A bullet hit her elbow, went through her arm and grazed her stomach.

Johnson is one of eight people shot at the fair. She says people were panicking and running for their lives.

"Whoever did this did it for no reason. People were just trying to have fun at the fair."

Johnson was treated for her injuries at a local hospital. She says she has nerve damage in her arm and hand, and may need surgery.

Johnson was surprised to learn later on she wasn't the only victim.

"After the doctor told me there were five people in the hospital from the same incident, I couldn't believe it. I thought I was the only one shot," said Johnson.

But Johnson is just grateful her sister and friends weren't hurt, and that she's okay.

"Life isn't granted, don't take this life for granted."

Savannah-Chatham Metro police are still looking for the shooter or shooters. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
