Beaufort texting and driving law goes into effect

Posted: Updated:
BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) -

Beaufort officials will begin enforcing their no texting and driving law Saturday.

South Carolina does not have a state-wide law in regards to texting and driving, making it only one of 11 states in the nation without one.

Beaufort, along with about a dozen other South Carolina cities, have become the first to institute their own provisions to prevent potentially deadly accidents.

Along with the new texting and driving law, anyone under the age of 18 who is driving is prohibited from any use of a phone or hand-held device.
