HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -
A
man was shot in the leg early Saturday morning and arrested in connection with
his gun going off after a fight broke out at a bar.
Kevin
Darel Ramsey, 27, was shot and later arrested on one count of discharging a firearm
within town limits and charged with simple possession of marijuana after it was
found on him at the hospital, according to Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
Just
before 3 a.m. Saturday, deputies responded to Simmons Fish Camp at 11 Simmons
Rd. Several people and cars were leaving as deputies pulled up and several shell
casings were found throughout the parking lot. Two vehicles were damage by
gunshots gunfire.
Witnesses
told deputies that a large fight broke out inside the bar and eventually
spilled out into the parking lot. Several shots were reportedly fired, but witnesses
said they didn't see any shooters, according to the sheriff's office.
Deputies
were notified that a man was at the Hilton Head hospital with a gunshot in his
leg. Investigators reviewed surveillance video from outside the club and saw Ramsey
fire his gun, according to the sheriff's office. They believe he shot himself
in the leg.
Ramsey
told deputies that he'd been at Simmons Fish Camp when the fight started but
said he was not involved. He told police he heard gunshots then realized he'd
been shot in the leg and that a relative took him to the hospital.
No
other parties have been identified in the shooting at this time.
Ramsey
was treated and released for non-life-threatening injuries.
