A York man died Monday while helping the victims of Hurricane Sandy in Long Island.
David Freberg, his father-in-law, and others from the York area were volunteering on Long Island after Hurricane Sandy hit in late October.
David's mother told CN2 Tuesday that David was killed Monday morning while cutting a tree. The tree somehow bounced back and hit him, killing him instantly, she said.
David grew up in Upstate New York, and moved to the York area 12 years ago.
David and his wife, Dawn, had three children. The youngest child is nine months old, the oldest around 7 years old.
On her Facebook page, Dawn wrote, "You will never be forgotten, you will always be a part of me. You gave me the three biggest blessings I could ever ask for and when I look at them I will see you through their eyes. I love you with my whole heart and soul."
David's mother said he was a very spiritual man who loved God from an early age. She said he was the kind of man who would literally give you the shirt off his back, and even gave his clothes to a homeless man once at a truck stop.
