SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

There are some strong reactions from the Senate on the Base Realignment and Closure proposals. Senator Saxby Chambliss is not sure the closings accomplish much when it comes to balancing the budget.

"So, when the Pentagon says we can achieve all of these saving by closing bases, show me the money is what I say. I'm going to fight it until we see around the country. If we can't save money by closing them, then we don't need to be considering another round of BRAC right now," said Chambliss.

Chambliss also thinks the timing is not right. After the last cuts, Georgia lost bases and jobs in Athens and Atlanta. He says when the Navy closed the supply school in Athens, they built another in the Northeast.

"Frankly, the taste in the mouth of people in Congress right now about the last round of BRAC is still not good. They are going to have a difficult time getting another round of BRAC put in place right away. So, I don't know that 2015 is likely," said Chambliss.
