Driver charged with DUI after crashing into water main

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Robert Eaddy has been charged with DUI less safe, open container, fleeing and eluding, and several other charges after leading police on a chase Saturday night.

Garden city police say Eaddy was pulled over and given a sobriety test, which he failed, because he was twice over the legal limit.

Eaddy then somehow got away from police, forcing them to chase him. He ended up crashing into a water main at Ogeechee Rd. and I-16.

Police say he was ejected out the back window of the car and hit a metal building.

Residents in two nearby hotels had to be evacuated due to the broken water main.
