The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating a robbery that took place in the parking lot of a Hilton Head shopping complex Tuesday night.
Sheriff's deputies responded to Northridge Plaza at approximately 8:45 p.m. in reference to a reported purse snatching. Deputies met with the 67-year-old female victim upon arrival. She told police that her purse had been stolen by an unknown black male.
The victim stated that she was walking to her vehicle when a black male approached her from behind. As the victim opened her vehicle door, the suspect knocked her off balance by shoving the door closed, and then tore her purse from her shoulder. The suspect then ran through the parking lot and left the victim unharmed.
Members of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office K9 Tracking Team were called out to assist in searching the area. The victim's purse and its contents were found near the First Citizens Bank. The victim told police that only a small amount of cash was missing from the purse. The suspect was not located or identified.
The suspect was described as a black male in his mid 20s, approximately 5'10", 160 lbs, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1.888.CRIME.SC or Investigator Cpl. D. Seifert at 843.255.3414.
