EMANUEL CO., GA (WTOC) -
Two of six inmates who
escaped the Emanuel County jail on Saturday are still on the loose.
Deputies and U.S. marshals are still
looking Matthew Findley and Jeffrey Webb.
Late Saturday night, the six inmates slipped into the utility area. From
there, they climbed to the roof, broke open a hatch and escaped over the barbed
wire fence.
Emanuel County Sheriff Tyson Stephens said that a jail door to a utility zone
was opened during the weekend to allow a work crew into the area to fix a
plumbing problem. When the crew left, the jailer closed the door, but failed to
lock it. Stephens said the jailer would be disciplined, but he said that would
not include termination.
By Sunday morning, three of the six were back in custody. On Monday night, Cecil
"Red" Dewitt Nelson was captured Monday night without incident at his
mother's home in Pembroke with help from the Pembroke Police Department.
