JaVoni CantyJaVoni Canty plays three sports at Liberty County and is one of the top students in her class.
She plays basketball, volleyball, but admits her passion is track and field where the shot put and discus are her specialties. "To be honest, that my first love," said Canty. "You would think a girl's first love is a boy, a crush or something like that, but mine is a sport so who would have known."
In the classroom, JaVoni's first love is math. She says its mainly because there really is just one answer. "I like problem solving, those are the types of things I like to do," said Canty. "Just numbers fascinate me, they really do."
She's always been a strong student in the classroom, "I'm just like any other student. I make mistakes and sometimes you get bad grades here and there but success is a big priority for me." English teacher Lindy Hollowell adds, "She set goals for herself and she worked hard to achieve those goals. But, she did pick things up very quickly. She does have an amazing work ethic."
Canty plans to major is chemistry when she attends college with an eye toward being a pharmacists. She has been accepted at Augusta State and hopes to join the track team.
Canty has always given back to her community through her church and her father's participation in projects through his job at CSX. "We went to Garden City and we basically landscaped, redid the agriculture there and planted trees and flowers and those things at a community (Bazemore) park."
By the way, the basketball season opens for the Lady Panthers when they travel to Richmond Hill on November 27th.
