BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -
The chairman of the Beaufort County Council submitted his resignation on Thursday night to fill his new role as state representative for District 120.
Weston Newton had been the county chairman for 10 years. Vice Chairman Paul Sommerville will handle the chairman duties starting Dec. 3, according to the county. An election will be held in January to elect a new vice chairman and chairman.
Newton won the race to be the state representative for the newly formed District 120 in the Nov. 6 election, according to the county.
