Better Business Bureau warns shoppers of holiday scams

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The holiday shopping season is underway but buyers beware. What's suppose to be the most wonderful time of the year can turn into a nightmare for those who fall victim to a scam.

The Better Business Bureau warns shoppers that scammers may send an email or text message to receive a free gift card. But the BBB says shoppers shouldn't fall for it because it's a scam. Officials say shoppers shouldn't respond or click on any links because scammers are trying to steal your personal information.

Shoppers should also stay away from buying gift cards on auction sites and only buy them at the store.

Crooks may also try to get shoppers through their smartphones and tablets as most shoppers do their shopping online. Officials say if a deal seems to good to be true, it probably is.
