WTOC has learned some disgruntled stevedores with Ports America walked off the job site in Port Wentworth Sunday afternoon. This in response to several co-workers recently being laid off and various other issues. The employees at this time would not comment.
While the Georgia Ports Authority Executive Director Curtis J. Foltz released this statement on the matter.
"We understand that the issue involves Ports America, one of the three local stevedore companies, and a group of contracted supervisory personnel not directly involving the ILA or GPA personnel. We have been in contact with the local ILA leadership and are jointly committed to providing the excellent service our customers count on us for," said Foltz.
