BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) -
The Bluffton Township
Fire District is planning temporary fire stations to avoid increases in home
insurance premiums in some communities, the Island Packet reports.
Permanent stations
are planned for Palmetto Bluff and Colleton River Plantation, but not for another
few years. The Bluffton Township Fire District's attorney said the plans are
part of a requirement by the insurance services organization to bring the ISO rating
down - meaning the community is safer, which would keep home insurance costs
down.
The new stations will
require at least 24 new firefighters and will cost at least $2.1 million more a
year in staffing.
