A 6-inch PVC Lift Station force main split, spilling an estimated 1,260 gallons of sewage into a drainage ditch at the east dead end of West Lake Avenue, according to the city.

The ditch drains to a storm retention basin on the south side of Interstate 516. Notifications about the spill were posted around the storm retention pond. The sewage in the drainage ditch was contained using sand bags and a City jet-vac trucks removed sewage, according to the city. A by-pass pump took the contaminated water out of the drainage ditch and put it into the City Sanitary Sewer Collection system, according to the city.

The spill is classified as a minor under Georgia Environmental Protection Division. Bacteriological sampling was conducted to verify the extent of the spill and all agencies were notified.
