SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A group of 340 people from Germany are on a year-long world cruise. They were in Savannah until 1 p.m. Tuesday and will head to Port Canaveral, Fla.

The group is expected to return in Germany in June 2013.

Hapag Lloyd cruise ship Columbus 2 docked at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. The Savannah Port is a
cargo-centered port so preference goes to cargo ships and cruise ships dock only rarely, according to the Georgia Ports Authority.

They have to make special arrangements with port police. They have to secure a corridor so people can exit and re-enter a ship on a secure cooridor, requires extra time for port police and manpower.
