SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Operation Hand-Warmer is helping to warm the hands and hearts of soldiers fighting overseas. The organization dropped off 2,700 hand warmers, along with other items, at Hunter Army Airfield Tuesday. The hand warmers will go to the 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Regiment and to 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, both deploying frequently and secretly to Afghanistan. The organization was founded by former Richmond Hill resident Burt Sappenfield.

"You are not always going to come home to a hot meal every night, so when they can get the hand warmers, the beef jerky, the trail mixes, the things we are putting in these boxes, it is really great for them and it is a morale booster knowing people in this country really do care," said Sappenfield.

There is a box at Prudential Southeast Georgia Properties on Diamond Causeway in the Kroger Shopping Center where donations can be dropped off.
