BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -

Beaufort County School District officials say they were notified by the South Carolina Department of Education on Friday of a diesel fuel shortage due to Superstorm Sandy. While they say they had enough fuel to get students to and from school this week, the diesel fuel shortage forced them to make some tough decisions.

"Monday and Tuesday, we canceled any after school programs that required transportation," said Gregory McCord, Beaufort County School District. "Some field trips of course were canceled as a result of the shortage."

District officials say they aren't anticipating any further shortages with fuel when they go back to school on Monday after the holiday break.
