Bulloch Co. deputy injured in hit-and-run

BULLOCH CO., GA (WTOC) -

A Bulloch County deputy is recovering after being involved in a hit-and-run on Tuesday. 

Deputy Jeff Thompson was traveling at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Parkway and Brannen Street on Tuesday when his patrol car was struck from the side by another vehicle who then fled the scene. Another deputy traveling in the area witnessed the crash and called for assistance. 

Thompson was transported to the hospital and was later released. 

The suspect who struck Thompson was later identified as Raleigh Anthony Cope of Brooklet. Cope was later arrested without incident and is facing numerous charges including DUI, hit and run, driving on a suspended license, no proof of insurance and second-degree criminal damage to property. 

Cope is being held at the Bulloch County Jail.
