May River Rd. back open after vehicle catches fire
BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) -
A portion of May River Road had to be shut down Wednesday morning after a vehicle burst into flames.
It happened around 7:30 a.m. Officials say a Pontiac Bonneville driven by Reyes Gonzales, was traveling westbound on May River Road near the Rose Dhu Creek intersection when his breaks began to lock up. Gonzales reported that he then pulled off to the side of the road and his vehicle immediately caught fire.
The fire began to spread to some trees and grass in the area around the vehicle. The Bluffton Township Fire Department arrived on scene and were able to put out the flames before it could spread.
Gonzales was able to get out of his vehicle unharmed before the fire started.
The incident caused May River Road/Rte. 46 to be blocked off for approximately 45 minutes, according to B. It is now back open to traffic.
