SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Thanksgiving holiday travel period is upon us.
More than 1.1 million Georgians are expected to travel to their Thanksgiving destinations, according to AAA.
Overall, travel is expected to increase 4 percent over last year. The majority of travelers will go by car but some people are choosing to make the journey by airplane. Air travel is expected to be up 20 percent. Travelers we spoke to say they were quite surprised by the low airfare prices.
"Paid $300 for the ticket," said Ryan Becker. "I am traveling to Rochester, New York. I looked up tickets on a whim and it was reasonable. I am carrying my bag because I don't want to check it. If I don't check it, I won't lose it."
AAA estimates there will be 38.2 million motorists, while there will be 3.4 million folks in the skies.
