BRUNSWICK, GA (WTOC) -
American Red Cross Disaster Action Team members from Glynn County
assisted a 75-year-old Brunswick resident who lives alone, after a fire caused
major damage to his home on Woodland Way Wednesday morning.
The resident had gone to bed but woke up sometime after midnight and
decided to watch TV for a while. He heard a popping noise coming from another
run and decided to investigate. He saw smoke and flames when he entered the room
and immediately went to a neighbor's home and asked for them to call 911.
Brunswick Fire Department responded immediately but the home had
already suffered major damage by the time they arrived to extinguished the
flames.
The home is uninhabitable but the resident has a nephew in the Brunswick
area who has welcomed him into his home. The Red Cross provided the man with
food, a comfort kit with personal hygiene items and seasonal clothing.
